Ingraham, Bob
I was a corpsman originally assigned to Mike Co. I embarked with 3/1 for Okinawa on the U.S.S. Magoffin in late August or early September, 1965.
Shortly after arriving in Okinawa I had surgery and was transferred to H and S company. I was in Operation Double Eagle, landing in Viet Nam on Jan. 28, 1966. I stayed with H and S Co. until I replaced a Lima Co. corpsman from Washington State who was killed.
On the morning of March 6, 1966, Lima Co. was ambushed by NVA troops, and I was shot through the right lower thigh as I started to treat a marine with a bad abdominal wound. I was evacuated to the U.S.S. Repose hospital ship, where I spent perhaps three days; then I was evacuated to San Diego Naval Hospital where I underwent treatment for the next 10 months. Still have the leg, which is pretty much fully functional. Still have lots of memories, some good, some not so good.

Morris, John "Brad"
3/1 H and S Co, S-4. My tour with 3/1 was enlightening! Prior to joining 3/1 I served
with 1st FSSG G-3 and H and HS MCAS Camp Pendleton, so I was a little worried
that I wouldn't get the friendliest reception from the hard-chargin'
0311/31/51/52's of the battalion. Aside from a few knuckleheads, I had NO
problems. I made many friends with those courageous 03's, and have the
greatest respect for them. During a 30 day exercise in Kuwait, and I saw
firsthand the hardships they face. Aside from the usual ribbing a non-03
gets, I never felt unwelcome in the battalion. Even though I have never
fired a shot in anger, I feel as though I'm a part of the brotherhood of
infantrymen.
